Digital Academy Classes
Subject to any rules imposed by the Digital Academy, School District No. 1 will permit any student who satisfies the requirements of MCA 20 -7-118 to enroll in Montana Digital Academy (MTDA) classes for the remainder of the school year in order that such student may include a greater variety of learning experiences within the student’s educational program or enroll in a class for credit recovery.
The District will allow students in grades 9-12 to enroll in the Montana Digital Academy program under the following conditions:
- The student must be an enrolled student in the District.
- A student may enroll for one or more MTDA courses subject to all Digital Academy rules and regulations.
- Determination of Montana High School Association (MHSA) eligibility will be based on eligibility rules established by MHSA. Students who wish to take MTDA classes and participate in MHSA activities must follow all extra-curricular eligibility rules.
- The District will allow a public-school full-time senior to enroll in a maximum of two (2) MTDA courses per semester and for public school freshmen through juniors, a maximum of one (1) MTDA course per semester, or at the discretion of the building principal.
- Public school students will have the option of taking the MTDA class(es) during the school day or outside of the school building; non-public school students will be required to take the MTDA classes at their school, home or an appropriate site arranged by the student or his/her parents and approved, if necessary, by the Digital Academy.
- All Digital Academy enrollees will be required to follow all MTDA policies and procedures.
- Any MTDA course offered may be made available to a student in the discretion of the Superintendent or designee and all courses offered by MTDA shall be considered approved by the Board of Trustees for the applicable school fiscal year.
- An on-site coordinator for public school students will be available to advise and assist all full-time District students and will be a Montana endorsed educator employed by the Butte School District. A designated coordinator employed by the District will assist non-district enrollees (private school students and home school students) to the extent possible, consistent with Digital Academy rules and regulations.
- The District shall pay fees for students enrolled in an MTDA class that required for graduation as specified in District policy or the student handbook or as determined by the Superintendent or designee. Classes defined as being required for graduation include classes taken for purposes of credit recovery.
- The District shall charge students a reasonable fee for an elective MTDA course or activity not required for graduation. The Board of Trustees authorizes the Superintendent to waive the fee in cases of financial hardship
- For public school students, MTDA courses will be factored into the student’s GPA according to the letter grade they earned in the MTDA course or courses. Non-public school students must make their own arrangements as to GPA, honors program, etc.
