Welcome to Hillcrest Elementary!
Hillcrest Elementary was constructed in 1963 as the growing population on the “Flats” put demands on the current schools.
As with each school that comprises the Butte School District, the students at Hillcrest enjoy great teachers who hold all students to the highest standards of learning. All students are challenged to meet or exceed the current standards of learning with the deeply embedded belief that all students can become life-long learners when given the building blocks for laying a solid foundation. The students, faculty, and parents are sources of encouragement and guidance for the accomplishments of their students scholastically, as well as in extracurricular activities.
An interesting adage that is part of Hillcrest school’s history goes a little like this: The Hillcrest Hornets received their mascot after much debate with the 6th grade class. While debating the idea yet unable to come to a conclusion for a mascot, one of the “bigger” boys in class opened a window. A hornet flew in and stung the boy. The hornet caused a great deal of pain to which the principal, Mr. Sullivan, replied, “If a hornet can cause that much pain to a big kid, imagine how strong we would be if we adopted it for our mascot". And so, Hillcrest became the “Hillcrest Hornets".
