A note from our School Nurse

A note from your school nurse, Nurse Katie!

Welcome back! We are all so excited to have your child back at school! Due to Coronavirus, this year will be very different!  Our goal is to keep our students and staff healthy while providing them the best education possible! Some of the changes students will see are:

·         Teachers and staff members will be wearing masks and/or face shields.

·         Students will be wearing masks too! They will wear them when they enter and exit the building, in class, and at recess.  If students can maintain 6 feet of physical distance at recess they will be able to remove their masks.  They can also remove their masks for water breaks, lunch, and during class if they are maintaining 6 feet of physical distance.  Please if possible, wash your child’s mask nightly or send a different clean mask daily.

·         We are asking students to practice physical distancing both in class and at recess.

·         We will be working hard at sanitizing, washing hands, using our own school supplies, and following all guidelines and recommendations.

·         Students will be eating lunch in their classrooms with their teachers.

·         We will have decreased hallway traffic and posted signs to remind and educate students about physical distancing and wearing masks.

In order to do all these things, we need your help! We know that everyone may have a different opinion on Coronavirus, but we are asking our students and their families to respect one another and work together as a community to follow the guidelines to help keep us in school.

Here are some reminders on how you can help.

·         If your child is sick, please keep them home.

·         If they wake up with a fever or any other symptoms, please call the school and report their absence (when you call the school please leave a message that includes why your child will be absent). In the event of positive Coronavirus cases, this may help identify clusters of students.

·         If they have fever and/or two or more of the following symptoms, please keep them home:

o   Shortness of breath or cough

o   Sore throat

o   Runny or stuffy nose

o   Severe headache

o   Fatigue or overly tired

o   Muscle aches

o   Loss of taste or smell

o   Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

·         Keep your child home if you’ve been notified by the health department that your child has had contact with an individual that has tested positive for the Coronavirus.

·         If your child is determined to be sick at school and you receive a call to pick them up, please do so in a prompt manner. Parents/volunteers are not allowed in the building, once you’ve arrived ring the front door to notify the school secretary.

·         Support our school in our efforts to keep your child and others safe by being positive about all of these changes.

·         Visit the Butte School District website for more information regarding Butte School District’s reopening plan due to Coronavirus.
