Condolences

Kennedy

Whittier’s condolences go out to the Kennedy Elementary family. Butte is a great community and when these things happen, we all hurt in different ways.  These unfortunate tragedies bring with them many emotions.  If you or your student is struggling, please let us know and we can get them extra help.  Also, please be careful of the information you pass onto your kids.  Bullying is an important and detrimental issue within our youth across the board, but that is not what happened at Kennedy, regardless of what some people are putting on social media or are being told.  I can tell you with certainty that bullying was not a factor in what happened.

Remember our kids are sponges and they are seeing adults do the same things that we are telling them not to do such as post mean, incorrect and sometimes even hateful information on social media platforms. If we want to teach our kids to be responsible on internet, then we must show them how and fact check the things that people are posting instead of believing everything we hear.  As Stacy York, a well known behaviorist said, “we are teaching all the time, whether we want to be or not.  So be careful what you are teaching”. If we want our kids to be respectful, responsible and productive citizens within the community we must lead by example.
