Message from the principal

I would like to welcome you to the “John F. Kennedy” Elementary School website!  My name is Brian Anderson and I am the Principal of this incredible school.  Our school has so much to be proud of, but it is all because of our incredible staff, students, and parents.

Kennedy Elementary School is a treasured institution within the Butte Community, as it is the last elementary school left on the “hill”. The community support for our school is overwhelming and its student success is celebrated by the families it serves.  Kennedy Elementary was built in 1958 and was originally named “The Big Butte School”.  In 1963 the school name was changed to John F. Kennedy Elementary School.   It was the first school in the nation to change its name to honor the life of President John F. Kennedy.  It shares this honor with John F. Kennedy Middle School in Bethpage, New York.

Kennedy celebrates being honored as a Multi-Tiered System of Supports school.  This program is used to develop a proactive approach in creating behavioral supports and a social culture that establishes social, emotional, and academic success for all students.  Clear behavioral expectations are taught, modeled, and reinforced across all settings by all staff.  We are proud to reward our students by giving students PRIDE Club tickets, positive postcards, attendance certificates, invitations to the Kiwanis’ BUG (Bring Up Grades) parties, and PRIDE parties for having good attendance, assignment completion, high academic achievement, and good behavior.  PRIDE is the acronym that we use to represent our school’s universal expectations.  The P stands for Positive Attitude, The R stands for Respect, the I stands for involvement, the D stands for determination, and the E stands for encouragement.  We are also very proud of our academic Hall of Fame program, which encourages students to enrich their academic abilities through a “jeopardy” style competition.

Please review our website newsletter to keep current on upcoming events and activities.   Also, make sure you have activated your Infinite Campus parent portal account and app. This will allow you to access your child’s grades, attendance, and contact specific teachers.   Instructions for each of these are on the main page of the school district website.

If you have any ideas, questions, or concerns, feel free to contact me at andersonba@bsd1.org or 406-533-2453.  I appreciate the opportunity and the privilege of working with your children each day!   Thanks!
