Welcome to Butte School District #1

Welcome to a new school year in Butte School District #1! As I begin my first year serving as Superintendent, I am filled with excitement, gratitude, and optimism for the opportunities that lie ahead for our students, staff, families, and community. Growing up in Butte is one of the attributes I am most proud of, and I believe the values, resilience, and sense of community that defined my upbringing have prepared me well for this incredible opportunity. It is truly an honor to serve the community that helped shape who I am.

At Butte School District #1, our mission guides every decision we make: “Butte Public Schools will create, in partnership with our staff, families and community, challenging opportunities for all students to be successful as they become responsible and contributing citizens, and master the knowledge and skills essential for life-long learning in our changing and diverse world.” This mission reflects our commitment to ensuring that every student is prepared not only for success in school, but for success in life. Through the principles outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate, we strive to develop students who are effective communicators, critical thinkers, collaborative problem-solvers, responsible citizens, and lifelong learners who are ready to thrive in an ever-changing world.

We firmly believe that schools are the foundation of a strong community. The partnership between our schools, families, businesses, and community members is essential to student success. I encourage parents and guardians to become actively involved in our schools by attending open houses, parent nights, concerts, athletic events, and school activities throughout the year. Your involvement makes a difference. Whether volunteering in classrooms, supporting school organizations, attending events, or simply staying engaged in your child’s educational journey, your partnership strengthens our schools and our community. Our stakeholders are not observers in the educational process; they are vital contributors to the success of every student.

As we prepare for another outstanding school year, I invite members of our community to consider becoming part of our team. We continue to seek talented individuals who are committed to serving students and making a positive impact. Take a moment to reflect on your strengths, passions, and areas for growth, and consider whether one of our open positions may be a good fit for you. The success of our district is built upon the dedication and talent of the people who serve our students each day, and we welcome those who share our commitment to excellence.

This year brings several exciting initiatives designed to support student growth and well-being. We are implementing a new elementary reading program to strengthen literacy instruction and improve learning outcomes for our youngest students. We are also renewing our commitment to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, reinforcing our dedication to creating safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environments for all students. We continue to expand upon our dual credit and work based learning opportunities for our high school students.  At the same time, we eagerly anticipate the many traditions that make each school year special, from kindergarten meet and greets and elementary celebrations to high school graduation ceremonies. We look forward to cheering on our student-athletes at football games, applauding performances at speech meets and activities, and welcoming families to open houses across the district.

Our theme for this school year is "Every Second Counts." This motto reflects our belief that each day, each lesson, and each opportunity matters. Consistent student attendance is the foundation of academic achievement and personal growth. We encourage families to make school attendance a priority because students learn best when they are present, engaged, and connected to their learning community. In a world that changes every day, schools play an essential role in helping students develop the skills, knowledge, adaptability, and character needed to succeed. I am excited about the journey ahead and look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year. Please know that my door is always open. Together, we will continue building on the proud traditions of Butte School District #1 while preparing our students for a bright and successful future. Thank you to those folks that did the hard work to create this website.  Please use it as it is the key that unlocks the rest of our District.  Thank you for your partnership, and best wishes for a wonderful school year.
