2024 Superintendent Jonart's Welcome Back Letter

2024 Superintendent Jonart's Welcome Back Letter

Dear Families,

It is with great pride that I welcome you to the 2024-2025 school year.  Our focus for this year is to create a safe and secure learning environment where strong partnerships and respectful relationships can flourish. It is only by working together that we can reduce chronic absenteeism, promote the love of  reading, and build the kind of momentum that will launch the Butte School District into a new era of possibilities for students, parents, and the entire Butte Community.

We want all students  to get off to a good start by creating routines that will promote regular school attendance.   Data shows that students who miss 2-4 days in September often go on to miss as much as a month of school. That really impacts student growth as those with chronic absenteeism by the 3rd grade generally do not show proficiency in reading and math. Also, the continuation of absenteeism by the 6th grade usually is an early indicator of dropping out before high school graduation.  Each student brings their own unique  strengths and perspectives to the classroom providing a rich learning environment for everyone.  When a student is absent, it not only  has a negative impact on their own learning but also negatively impacts  the entire class. We  absolutely need all students in school to maintain our rich and collaborative learning environments where all students  thrive!!  Let’s all work together and make regular school attendance a priority for all students!!!

We will also  continue to work with  all families to promote reading at home. I am passionate about reading because it  offers a multitude of benefits that can transform the lives of our students in so many ways.  Reading reduces stress,  strengthens the brain, increases empathy, reduces the learning loss, and improves sleep. !!!    Reading can have a powerful impact on the lives of your student so please take every opportunity to share with your child the gift of literature!!!

In conclusion, we would like to emphasize that your child is our greatest gift, and our teachers and staff are dedicated to their continued success in the coming school year.   I cannot adequately express how fortunate I feel to be part of such a great school district and community.

Thank- you for your continued support of our Butte students.  We are Butte School District PROUD!!

Sincerely,
Judy Jonart
Superintendent
